Hey Reader! Happy Friday. It's been a week at our house, I'll spare you the details but think broken appliances, food poisoning, and a 4 inch nail in my tire 🤪 So I'm beyond happy to make it to Friday this week. Earlier this week I was working on one of our upcoming sites that's getting ready to launch next week and it hit me that there's one part of our redesign process that I love more than anything else. I love the homepage because it's key for brand clarity and helping your readers get lost in your content in the best way (think scrolling aimlessly on IG, but it's on YOUR blog). The recipe index is crucial for SEO. The about page builds credibility, authority and demonstrates expertise. But my favorite? 🤔 The blog posts themselves. To start, it's almost exclusively how someone first discovers you. Rarely does someone enter your site on any other page. It's usually a blog post. That means it's crucial for converting someone from a random person to someone who's curious about what you do. It's the entryway into your world for someone who's new to your blog (or even someone returning). It's your chance to share your recipe (trip, project, tip, etc depending on your niche), share an offer (your email list!) and make an impression. Do you want to know my favorite way of doing that? Blocks. Whether you know them as Gutenberg blocks, patterns, block patterns or something else, these are the little snippets of content you have in your blog posts that are designed to stand apart from the regular paragraph blocks you use in your post. When we design these blocks for our clients, we are able to draw pieces of the rest of their brand and website into little blocks that create a quality user experience. Want to see a few of my favorites we've designed lately? These blocks can be used anywhere on a blog once they're created making them flexible and fun to use. Each of these are part of our semi-custom web design package. This is one of parts of this package that are highly custom to you. Blocks as unique as your content. If you aren't using custom blocks to help your content stand out, you're unfortunately just starting to blend in, my friend. And you cannot afford to blend in in today's blogging world. Which one is your favorite? Hit reply and share with me. I love hearing from you. How can we best support you?⚡️ Knock out your to do list with Designer for a Day. Hey Reader! When was the last time you did a content audit? 😱 A content audit is when you pull ALL of your blog posts into a spreadsheet and analyze how they're doing. I realized recently that it had been a loooong time since I reviewed my content. I was shocked when I did one recently and found over 100 posts that could stand to be updated. Recently, I switched from using Airtable for my to Notion and that reinvigorated my desire to go through the content audit process again. Doing this...
Recently we had some friends over for dinner (something we LOVE to do) and she brought some amazing chocolate chip cookies. Chocolate chips cookies are my husband's love language, but usually he only likes my recipe. So when he likes someone else's recipe, I need to have it! When I asked her which blog the recipe came from, she had no idea. She spent 30+ minutes on that website while making her cookie dough and couldn't tell me one thing about it. Even when she loved the results, that didn't...
Hey Reader, One of the goals I often hear from our clients for their website redesign is that they want their readers to be able to get lost in their content. Well thought out categories are one of the primary ways that you can get organized, as well as improve reader experience and contribute significantly to SEO and site navigation! ➡️ Click to listen to the episode: Do's and Don'ts of Category Pages for Food...
